What is it?
Yellow fever, also known ask yellow jack or yellow plague, is an acute viral hemorrhagic disease transmitted through the bite of female mosquitos. Symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, nausea, chills, muscle pains, and headaches. It gets its name from the jaundice it causes from extensive liver damage, making your skin turn yellow.

Where is it located?
90% of yellow fever infections occur in Africa, with the largest number of recorded cases being in Togo. It's also common in the tropical areas of South America.

How will it kill you?
Three to six days after contracting the virus, infected, patients will undergo the initial "acute" phase where they'll experience the symptoms listed earlier. Most of them will improve and recover after three to four more days. But some of these patients will enter a second, more toxic phase 24 hours after the initial remission where they'll fall victim to jaundice and abdominal pain with vomiting. They'll also experience bleeding from the mouth, eyes, and nose along with blood appearing in their vomit and feces. Death occurs ten to 14 days after entering this toxic phase.

How to survive:
Although there is no cure for yellow fever, there does exist a safe and effective vaccine that travelers can take as a preventative measure for their health before entering an infectious area. It's an injection. But if it's too late and you've already been infected, you will require hospitalization so that intensive and supportive care can be administered in order to treat your body's rapid deterioration.
